Family of God Christian Fellowship works alongside Grupo Unidad Familiar, a sister Church here in Puerto Penasco, to support and supply a greatly needed Food Bank. This ministry provides dispensa’s (a grocery bag full of basic food items) once per month to needy families for a six month period of time in order to help these families while in search of work or due to other financial restraints. This period can be extended based on need. The Food Bank is open every Monday morning and families gather to receive their bags of food as well as to apply for assistance. Each dispensa consists of approximately 10-15 items depending on supply and availability from the following:
· Rice
· Dry Beans
· Box of milk
· Cooking Oil
· Canned Tuna
· Flour or Corn Meal
· Sugar
· Salt
· Can of some type of Vegetables
· Bouillon cubes
· Pasta
· Small can of Tomato sauce
· Dried Cereal or Oatmeal (based on availability)
· Cookies (based on availability)
· Roll of Toilet paper (based on availability)
· Peanut butter (based on availability)
· Canned fruit (based on availability)
· Soap – body, laundry or dish (based on availability and need)
· Diapers and/or formula (based on availability)
For families applying for help and in immediate need, a small dispensa containing rice or beans, pasta, tomato sauce, tuna and flour is provided until the family can be added to the distribution calendar.
The weekly gathering also provides counseling and prayer for those seeking help; the volunteers gather together and pray for the individuals seeking comfort, encouragement and guidance.
Additionally, prior to the distribution, the volunteers gather together with those coming to apply or receive dispensa’s to sing Praise and Worship songs and a Scriptural message is given each week to encourage and proclaim our beautiful Savior.
Currently, approximately 120 families receive assistance each month due to limited resources but the need is much greater here in Penasco.
